Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Match Report

Bayern overcome Dortmund 1-0 at the Signal-Iduna Park in the Der Klassiker as Alphonso Davies also shines.

Bayern Munich beat Dortmund 1-0 in the Der Klassiker, taking a 7 point lead in the table.

Bayern Munich took home the win against Borussia Dortmund in the strange echoing atmosphere, with Joshua Kimmich getting the winner.

In the 28th round of fixtures, Bayern Munich came out on top in a highly coveted fixture against Borussia Dortmund.

It was a matchup between the team with the best home record against the team with the best away record.

Dortmund needed to win this match to keep their title hopes alive, but they had never won a Rückrunde match against the Bavarians since 2012 and they failed to break the duck yet again.

Amidst the pollen flying around the Signal-Iduna Park, an indicator of the early summer heat, it was Joshua Kimmich who scored the goal to give Bayern the lead.

Before the half-time break, Joshua Kimmich scored a deft dink over Roman Bürki, who was caught out of position, from outside the box as Bayern continuously pressed the Dortmund defence which evetually crumbled.

Alphonso Davies was one of the most composed players and really stood out on the pitch, both in attack and in defence. He made about 4 recoveries in the first half alone and denied Haaland a clear one-on-one opportunity.

Alphonso Davies registered a speed of 35.3km/h (21.9mph) chasing back against Erling Haaland. That run almost entered into the Top 10 recorded speeds in the bundesliga all time.

Alphonso Davies had a stellar performance, attacking as well as defending in great fashion.

Borussia targeted the left wing of Bayern as Davies didn't receive much support from Gnabry, but he held his ground firmly, utilising his pace.

Bayern's Alaba and Boateng acted like brick walls, not allowing others to get a clear shot in on goal.

Julian Brandt and Delaney were subbed out for Jadon Sancho and Emre Can by Lucien Favre, hoping to get a goal back and at least getting a draw.

Erling Haaland came off injured for Gio Reyna, the American prodigy, as he needed medical treatment.

The game swinged in favour of either team every 5-10 minutes so it was pretty frustrating for Borussia Dortmund to concede just before the half ended.

In the end, it was Bayern's tackling that prevented Dortmund from building up a proper attack and having the adequate space to carry out their offensive sequences.

The 80,000 fans not being present at the stadium certainly helped Bayern's cause in the Der Klassiker.

This win increases Bayern's lead at the top of the table to 7 points with 6 games remaining.

Bayern take on Duesseldorf next time out while Dortmund take on Paderborn at the Benteler Arena.
