Borussia Dortmund vs Bayern Munich Match Report

Image
Bayern overcome Dortmund 1-0 at the Signal-Iduna Park in the Der Klassiker as Alphonso Davies also shines. Bayern Munich beat Dortmund 1-0 in the Der Klassiker, taking a 7 point lead in the table. Bayern Munich took home the win against Borussia Dortmund in the strange echoing atmosphere, with Joshua Kimmich getting the winner. In the 28th round of fixtures, Bayern Munich came out on top in a highly coveted fixture against Borussia Dortmund. It was a matchup between the team with the best home record against the team with the best away record.  Dortmund needed to win this match to keep their title hopes alive, but they had never won a Rückrunde match against the Bavarians since 2012 and they failed to break the duck yet again. Amidst the pollen flying around the Signal-Iduna Park, an indicator of the early summer heat, it was Joshua Kimmich who scored the goal to give Bayern the lead. Before the half-time break, Joshua Kimmich scored a deft dink ove...

Leroy Sane to Bayern updates and Bundesliga resumes!

Leroy  Sanè To Bayern Munich Updates and Bundesliga returns with the Revierderby! In the Leroy Sanè saga, two new reports (Evening Standard and Telegraph) indicate that Leroy Sanè is on his way to Bayern Munchën. Bayern expressed their interest in Sanè last summer and were ready with a big bid for the winger, but he suffered a long-term injury, which has kept him off the pitch this season, so no progress was made. Bayern has publicly shown interest in Leroy and plans to bid when the window reopens. Only a single year will be left on Sanè's contract come June, but City are not willing to let him leave for a cheap price of 35 million euros which Bayern are planning to bid, reportedly. Reports add that City are willing to let him leave for free rather than at a cut price and only IF the player states his desire to leave the Manchester outfit. We can only wait to see what happens next in this long saga and whether Sanè is a Mancunian or Bavarian come next season. ...

Tottenham Hotspur vs. Liverpool Match Report

Image
The irrepressible Red tide goes on and on. Liverpool edge off Tottenham Hotspur at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium 1-0 to continue their unbeaten run in the Premier League, courtesy of a goal from Roberto Firmino. "It is Liverpool's football!" said Peter Drury, the renowned commentator, and he could not have been more right as Liverpool blew away a struggling Tottenham Hotspur side 1-0, with a goal from Roberto Firmino. Tottenham, out of their last 14 games against Liverpool, had won only one game which was a 4-1 win at Wembley in 2017. Liverpool were undefeated in their last 8 Premier League games in London, winning their last 3 in a row. They hadn't won 4 consecutive games in the capital city since October 1989, until now. Liverpool boast the best attack and defence in the Premier League, not having failed to score in their last 29 games. As for Tottenham, only Norwich City had kept as few Premier League cleansheets as them (2) prior to t...

Manchester City vs Port Vale: Preview

Image
Preview: Manchester City vs. Port Vale - Predictions, team news, lineups. Manchester City host the F.A. Cup Round 3 fixture against League Two side Port Vale on Saturday evening as they look to successfully defend the trophy they won last year in May. Port Vale, sitting in the 10th position in League Two, make a small trip to the Etihad. Their league position means they are 76 places behind their opponents in the English Football League pyramid. Match Preview: During the start of the new season, winning the FA Cup would have been third on the list of priorities for City manager, Pep Guardiola. But, given the mammoth distance between them and league leaders Liverpool, he will be more concentrated on defending this trophy, which they won after having a field-day against Watford in the final of this competition last season, beating them 6-0. After a hectic Christmas schedule which had them play two games in less than 46 hours, and the upcoming first leg of ...

Answering the Manchester City haters

Image
The tide HAS turned and Manchester City are here to stay. The blue moon is rising, and there's no stopping it. The "plastic fan", "no history" chant is repeatedly aimed at Manchester City fans by the opposing fans, as if they suddenly materialised from thin air in 2008. As a reminder, City still hold the attendance record for a game outside Wembley, the 84,569 who crammed into Maine Road in 1934 for an FA Cup tie. It’s worth remembering that the “ultra-loyal” Newcastle fans averaged 16,879 in 1991, when in the second tier, while Spurs were getting 29,000 in 1998, and the last time United were in the second division for more than one season, in the 1930s, they averaged around 20,000. No history? Well, King George V chose Hyde Road, City’s first ground, when he became the first monarch to attend a game and if you go back even further into the Manchester Evening News archives you will find sepia-tinted clippings from 1902 when the club were raising mo...

Arsenal vs Manchester City Match Report

Image
De Bruyne's first-half masterclass, too much for Ljungberg's Arsenal.   Manchester City resumed normal service in the Premier League after an emphatic first 45' from Kevin De Bruyne led them to a 3-0 victory over Arsenal. In a tension filled atmosphere at the Emirates Stadium, it was Manchester City who came out on top against a rudderless Arsenal.  Arsenal had lost their last 5 games against City, including the League Cup Final, which was Pep Guardiola's first trophy at the Mancunian club. In Pep's 200th game in charge, Manchester City were hoping to keep a cleansheet, which they had failed to keep in the last 10 games. Coming into the game, both teams were not in great form. Arsenal's win at West Ham last week was their first in their previous 8 league games. Manchester City, on the other hand, had won only 2 of their last 5 games in the Premier League. Within the first few seconds, Martinelli bustled through, forcing a fine stop fr...

Manchester City vs Manchester United Match Report

A Blue Moon, surrounded by Red Stars. United come out on top in the highly contested derby 1-2, courtesy of goals from Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial.  On a cold and crisp night in Manchester, it was the Red Devils who reigned supreme in the Manchester Derby. "Claustrophobically close, yet galaxies apart spiritually."  It was the 179th encounter between the "historic'' United team, and the "modern" City team and it did not disappoint. Luke Shaw made his first Premier League start since August. City goalkeeper Ederson was without a clean sheet in the last six games. A major attraction of the game was the matchup between Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Raheem Sterling, which Wan-Bissaka won more or less. He chased Sterling down wherever he went and made his life very problematic for ninety minutes. City had a strong start to the game, dominating possession as usual. It was a digging start for United but they found their feet in th...
